  Japanese Healthy Food

An event dedicated to Japanese healthy food has been held in the Clear Water restaurant at the campus of Astrakhan State University. Students of our Department of Foreign Languages have cooked a whole number of dishes that are traditional for the Land of the Rising Sun. Their cooking has been supervised by a native speaker – Hasegawa Satoko, who teaches Japanese at our University and who is a qualified specialist in nutrition.

Our students, their professors, and the University management have been invited to try all those dishes. The event has been arranged by the Chair of Oriental Languages of ASU; it was students of our Department of Foreign Languages who were in charge of cooking the traditional Japanese dishes, while students of the Department of Business & Economy studying tourism and hotel management were to serve the guests. The menu has included the kombu salad, tamagoyaki, nikujaga, norimaki, etc.

The whole event has been held interactively; Alina Savinova, an Associate Professor of our Chair of Asian Languages, and Aynur Eshkeeva, one of our students, have been telling the guests about each and every dish; they have also organized a number of thematic contests. The event program has also included a video master class how to use chopsticks in accordance with the Japanese dining etiquette. Hasegawa Satoko has also shown how to cook norimaki.

This event has been organized as a part of our University’s overall activities to enhance its catering system and to promote the healthy lifestyle.
