Remembering 1945 Victory

On May 07, a traditional celebration in honor of veterans of World War Two has been held at Astrakhan State University as a part of general celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Russia’s Victory over Nazi Germany.

The celebration has taken place at the Clear Water restaurant located right at the University campus. Our Rector has given a greeting speech addressed to WW2 veterans who came to the event. He has pointed out that life makes issues of war and peace really crucial, that Russia’s victory in WW2 made Russia one of the world’s great powers in the modern world.

Mikhail Orlov, one of the veterans who worked at our University for many years, has shared his reminiscences about those years. He has emphasized that present-day young Russians ought to be proud of their country and to be its patriots.

The veterans of war and labor who came to the event have contributed much into the development of our educational system. Each of them is a unique individual with a complicated and an inimitable fate. As Prof. David Teply, one of our most merited biologists, has said, our memory about Russia’s Victory in that war shall never fade away.

The Center of Students’ Creativity operating at ASU has contributed to a warm-hearted atmosphere at the event by arranging a whole concert. As for the University Trade Union, it has prepared presents for all the guests. Let us congratulate everyone on the upcoming Day of Victory!
