Celebration of Buddhist New Year at ASU
Students of the Department of Foreign Languages of Astrakhan State University have met the Buddhist New Year.
According to the Buddhist calendar, the 2015 New Year arrived on February 19 to symbolize upcoming spring. It has become a good tradition to celebrate this holiday at our University. The agenda of celebrations prepared by students of our Department of Foreign Languages has included a fancy-dress performance, as well as splendid dancing and singing numbers, which created a truly Oriental atmosphere. A choir singing of a song in Chinese has been a smart surprise for the audience.
Students of our Department of Philology & Journalism have taken part in the celebrations, too. Their performance was full of traditional Chinese motifs, too. It was a symbol of the Chinese dragon that became the central image of their musical compositions. Chinese students studying at this Department have sung Chinese folk songs. At the end of the event, there was a holiday party in the Clear Water restaurant located within the University campus. The guests could enjoy the Chinese cuisine thanks to our students from China who cooked numerous traditional Chinese dishes. Anyone could also try themselves in the Chinese calligraphy. Active participation of Chinese students in holiday celebration and their smart concert numbers have made the whole celebration full of joy and excitement.
