Project by ASU among Leaders of First Stage of Russian Startup Tour
Researchers of Astrakhan State University have developed a system that makes it possible for people with special needs return their lost skills. They have taken part in the Russian Startup Tour in Rostov-on-Don. The project “Adaptive Game Set”, whose development has been supervised by our researcher Dr. Olga Vorontsova, has taken the 1st place.
This project has been developed at the Collective Application Center to Create Multimedia Content with Virtual Reality Elements, which is directed by Dr. Vorontsova. Its full name is “Adaptive Game Set to Correct Physical Malfunctions & Teaching of People with Special Needs Based on Kinect Technology”. The essence of this project is that its multimedia application makes it possible for people who have lost their locomotive functions to train and restore them. It applies the following principle: a patient is submerged into a virtual environment, where he or she does a series of exercises; the system of the set helps him or her control those exercises.
As Dr. Vorontsova says, this project is based on precise quantitative kinesiometric researches undertaken by means of the Vicon system that captures and analyzes movements; this is a unique set available only in five Russian laboratories. The jury, which has included Russia’s top scientists and management of Russia’s largest technological and dotcom companies, has highly assessed the potential of the project presented by researchers of Astrakhan State University. Besides, this Adaptive Game Set became the Best Project of Astrakhan Region at the Regional Contest of IT Projects in December 2014. Let us congratulate Dr. Olga Vorontsova and her research team!
