Student of ASU Wins National Contest in Farsi

Ivan Inzhevatov, an undergraduate student of the Department of Foreign Languages of Astrakhan State University, has taken the 1st place at the 11th National Contest on Farsi that has been held in Moscow.

Ivan has taken the 1st place in the nomination “Recitation of Artistic Text”; he has recited an extract of a poem by Mualavi, the well-known Persian poet. This nomination includes recitation of an artistic text, a talk about that text, and recitation of poems in Farsi. About 50 students from a large number of Russian universities where Farsi is taught as a foreign language have taken part in the Contest. The range of universities that the participants have represented includes Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Moscow State Linguistic University, Saint Petersburg State University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Novosibirsk State University, Dagestan State University, etc. As for Ivan, he has become a successor of another student of Astrakhan State University – Farida Dosova, who took the 1st place in the nomination “Essay in Farsi” a year ago at the same Contest.

One should remark that two other representatives of ASU at the current Contest in Farsi (Alexander Prilutsky and Anna Zagorodnaya) have already achieved considerable progress in their studies of Farsi; they have already received reputable employers’ offers to become their staff members. In 2014, their knowledge was highly evaluated by a letter of thanks written by Mr. Maksim Baranov, Consul-General of Russia to Iran, when they worked as interpreters for Astrakhan Region’s delegation that visited Iran then; the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Astrakhan Region has awarded them both with letters of commendation for their help in arrangement of the Iranian Exhibition in Astrakhan.

Besides our three students, Astrakhan has been represented by three high school students of Astrakhan Linguistic Gymnasium, where alumni of the Chair of Oriental Languages of Astrakhan State University initiated teaching Farsi several years ago. Dr. Vladimir Kulakov, an Associate Professor of ASU, supervises such activities at the Gymnasium; he has also accompanied the three high school students at the Contest.
