Pensioners Online
The Department of Extra Professional Education of ASU has arranged courses to train pensioners how to use a computer.
The courses are backed by the Ministry of Social Development & Labor of Astrakhan Region as the project “Everyone Is Welcome Online”. Students of Astrakhan State University, who are currently covering the master program “Information Systems & Technologies”, are teaching elderly people how to use a PC, how to find all the necessary information on the Web, etc. Special attention is paid to web sites of legal authorities, social support institutions, and medical facilities, so that a pensioner could easily pay their water and electricity bills, sign up for a physician’s consultation, etc.
As the project organizers say, this project is of great value, as it could be uneasy for elderly people to keep up with modern times, if no attention is paid to practical application of the World Wide Web. Thanks to such courses, elderly people acquire a very useful practical skill.
