For National Health
Students of Astrakhan State University have taken part in a lecture related to drug addiction and its consequences.
The cycle of lectures of antidrug character will be given at Astrakhan’s educational institutions up to middle December. Its goal is to counteract drug addition, smoking tobacco, and alcoholism among students. As it is well-known, over 60 % of Russian drug addicts are people aged from 16 to 30. That’s why prevention of such phenomena at educational institutions is of top priority for the police.
Reps of the Federal Drug Control Service and of local police departments that work with the under-aged have told our students about both health and legal consequences of drug addiction. They gave numerous examples from their everyday working practice and told in details what harmful impact narcotic drugs exert on psychological and physical health of a young organism. As the experts said, it is enough to try a drug just once to become a drug addict for life.
Our students have also learnt about toughened Russian legislation in the sphere of drug-related crimes, how the competent authorities struggle with offenders, and to what fines and prison terms offenders are sentenced if found guilty.
As representatives of the police and the Drug Control Service remark, the overall regional and national dynamics is getting better – drug are less and less attractive for young people, but preventive actions must not be terminated.
