Professor Jonathan Titus from SUNY Fredonia (USA) has arrived at Astrakhan State University to discuss a number of issues related to Botany.

The well-known US botanist will hold meetings with students of the Biological Department of ASU to discuss areal distribution of adventive plants (i.e. plants introduced in areas where they never grew before), recovery of vegetation after volcanic eruptions, drought, and floods, as well as issues of biological education and development of future biologists’ critical thinking.

Such visits are of great value for both our faculty and students. “Since the first days of their studies, we point out that our students ought to master English, as that’s the language of the world scientific community”, Prof. Vladimir Pilipenko, Director of our Innovative Institute of Natural Sciences, remarks. “Such meetings help our students develop linguistic competences, in particular – professional terms. Besides, such events help us position our University as a world-level university. Education can’t be locked within just one country; it has no boundaries or frontiers. One can succeed in researches in Biology, which is so full of puzzles and unexpected discoveries, only if one is aware of our foreign colleagues’ achievements and experience.
