Consul General of Iran in Astrakhan Visits Our University

Mr. Ali Mohammadi, the new Consul General of Iran in Astrakhan, has visited Astrakhan State University for the first time.

Appointed for his current post just 1.5 months ago, the distinguished guest has met our Rector and Vice Rectors face-to-face for the first time. Prof. Alexander Lunyov, our Rector, has arranged an excursion for him up and down the University premises and facilities, acting as the Consul General’s guide. The Rector has told our Iranian guest about the main fields of research and educational activities performed by ASU. According to the Consul General, he has been impressed by progress made by our researchers and students; he has expressed profound interest in arranging joint Iranian-Russian projects and programs.

After the excursion, the meeting was continued in the University Conference Hall, where the Iranian guest has been shown a presentation film in Farsi about Astrakhan State University. The Consul General has been told about the history of the Farsi language school at our University, which was established in 2002, when Mr. Alexander Mukhin was invited to head our Chair of Oriental Languages. Mr. Mohammadi has been told about current cooperation between ASU and universities of Iran; he has said that he shall do whatever he can to stimulate and develop such cooperation. As he says, he could not but visit ASU before his upcoming two-week trip to Iran.

Astrakhan State University has been cooperating with universities of Iran for over 10 years. We have established long-term relations with the University of Guilan and the University of Mazandaran; we exchange students with both universities every year.
