Rhymes & Rhythms at Department of Philology & Journalism of ASU

In late April, the poetic event “Rhymes & Rhythms of 1960s” dedicated to artistic works by Russian poets of the middle 20th century has been held at Astrakhan State University.

Students of the Department of Philology & Journalism have reconstructed the atmosphere of the last century jointly with the Dominant Accord Choir. The event has been arranged by faculty staff members of our University. Heartfelt verses by poets of those times, melodies of well-known songs, and fragments from films of that epoch have been presented to the audience. A historical chronicle and syncopated jazz rhythms have been the main components of audio and video presentations. Verses by famous poets of that period have made the audience feel the tension due to an everlasting confrontation between a poet and the legal authorities, everyday life and holidays of that time, love and devotion of the then generations. Each of the guests could find the main verses personally for them, which would remain with them forever. The song “Hallelujah to Love” by the choir of the Department have become a worthy final of the overall event.

The Department of Philology & Journalism participates actively in the Year of Literature declared in Russia this year. This poetic event is not the last one within a whole series of events to unite anyone who is fond of the Russian literature. Further events are to be reported.
