Exhibition “Touch Feat with Your Heart”

On April 23, a presentation of books dedicated to the history of our city has been held at Astrakhan State University.

As it is well-known, Astrakhan’s geographical position is unique; it is a crossroad of various cultures. Unfortunately, many interesting pages of our history has not been researched profoundly enough. Astrakhan’s history is closely related to the overall history of Russia.

A team of professionals of our University that included historians, literature experts, and sociologists has been collecting unique facts for a long time. Their output is their book “Astrakhan within Events of Great War: 1914 – 1918”, which is dedicated to one of the key themes of the Russian History – World War 1. According to Prof. Elena Timofeeva, Dean of our Historical Department, this book is a splendid edition containing precious photos and unique histories from Astrakhan people’s family archives. “It was essential to show the space where events of those times took place. Each and every street is a witness of memorable events. The War awoke our people’s public initiative and gave a remarkable feedback”, the Dean points out.

A second project is the “Culinary Traveling to Caspian Capital City”, which reflects Astrakhan Region’s original cuisine and its history. It includes reminiscences by a number of famous people who visited our region – Adam Olearius, Anthony Jenkinson, and Alexandre Dumas, père. The book describes dishes of the Lower Volga Region’s folk cuisine and its culinary brands. It was a whole team of Astrakhan State University who has taken part in the creation of this book – our professors, students, and researchers.
