Conference in Artistic Literature Studies at Department of Philology & Journalism

The event has been opened by a welcoming speech by Prof. Lyudmila Kasyanova, Dean of the Department, who has emphasized an especially significant role that literature plays in formation of civil self-conscience.

The Plenary Session has also included several reports that regarded game as a social cultural phenomenon. According to Prof. Gennadiy Isaev, Head of ASU’s Chair of Literature, artistic literature is some kind of an embodiment of game strategies. Grounding on his analysis of aesthetics and poetics of the Russian imaginism, he has given convincing arguments to prove that principles of life creativity are expressed in buffoonery and in acquisition of peculiar features of theater and carnival.

The report by Danil Tikhomirov, a PhD student of ASU, has been of special interest for the audience, as he has applied the interactive approach to deliver the main points of his speech and provoke polemics. His report has concerned the metaphor of card games.

It was Prof. Elena Zavyalova who has told about the Russian postmodernism prose. As for the linguistic aspect of game, it has been concerned by Dr. Anna Kurilova. As a result of her studies of Russian speeches of the 18th century in Latin, she has characterized various types of witty remarks. The audience was surprised to learn that Dr. Kurilova translated the speeches from Latin into Russian herself. Each report provoked a vivid discussion, which confirms relevance of the considered issues. The Plenary Session has been continued with section meetings.
