Contest for Best Facade Decoration: Over 200 Participants

Ms. Galina Zoteeva, Astrakhan Region’s Minister of Culture & Tourism, has opened an exhibition that followed the regional contest “New Year Fairy Tale” at the ART-SALON of Astrakhan State University. Over 200 participants have presented their photos of decorated facades.

The event has been held thanks to support provided by Mr. Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of Astrakhan Region. Design projects to decorate buildings that house legal authorities, business companies, and public organizations, as well as common private houses and blocks of flats, have been presented to the jury.

All in all, about 200 projects have been presented in 10 nominations. On December 22, the jurors had to decide which of them deserves a higher award. The jury has included, besides Ms. Zoteeva and other reps of regional architecture-related authorities, a whole number of top members of faculty staff of Astrakhan State University and the Astrakhan Institute of Engineering & Construction.

As for Astrakhan State University, it has been presented in two nominations. A special stand of ASU has been arranged for the nomination “Best Holiday Decoration of Educational Institution”; the stand has demonstrated New-Year facades of a number of our Departments. Large-scale work has been done this year to decorate our University buildings, and it has gained a real award – the 1st place in this nomination.

33 projects have been presented as nominees for the “Best Design Project of New-Year Decoration”. The number of students’ design projects has doubled this year. Five projects have been presented by the Astrakhan Institute of Engineering & Construction and 28 projects – by Astrakhan State University. It was Polina Boltenko, an undergraduate student of Astrakhan State University, who has taken the 1st place. She has presented a project of a New-Year decoration of Heydar Aliyev Secondary School located in the center of Astrakhan’s metropolitan area. The 2nd place has been gained by Tatyana Tislenko, another student of ASU, with her project of the Astrakhan Swan Lake (one of the most remarkable city sights of Astrakhan) as a New-Year fair arranged in accordance with Russian ethnic traditions. As for the 3rd place, it has been won by Mikhail Miloshevsky, also a student of ASU, who has presented his New-Year decoration of the facade of Astrakhan State Conservatory.

The exhibition shall work up to middle January 2015.
