Regional Center of Volunteers Opens at ASU

On December 05, 2014, the Volunteers’ Center has officially been opened at Astrakhan State University. The Center aims to select volunteers for the FINA 16th World Championship to be held in 2015 in the Russian city of Kazan. It is the first time that this event shall be held in Russia.

Astrakhan State University and the Ministry of Physical Training & Sports of Astrakhan Region are nonprofit partners of the FINA 16th World Championship; they assist in realization of the Volunteers Selection & Training Program for this event.

Centers of volunteers’ recruiting have been opened all over Russia at the same time. Twenty Russian cities (including Astrakhan) have become partners to select and recruit volunteers.

It is quite obvious that such large-scale events cannot get along without active assistance provided by volunteers; the number of volunteers at the FINA 16th World Championship shall make up 2, 500 people. At the moment, over 300 applications have already been submitted by residents of Astrakhan Region wishing to become a volunteer.

Interviews with first potential partners have been held right the first day at the newly-opened Center. Such interviews shall be held up to April; after that a group of volunteers who will go to Kazan shall finally be formed.
