Our Volunteers Leave for World Championship

A team of 25 volunteers selected at Astrakhan State University has left today for the city of Kazan to assist the 16th FINA World Championships 2015 in Kazan, Russia.

The 25 volunteers will assist in all the sites of this sporting event dedicated to water sports. Their duties include assistance to the Championship participants in their accommodation, interpretation from and into different languages, and information support of this event. The volunteers are to spend several weeks in Kazan. Although the Championship is to begin only on July 24 and will end on August 07, our people will arrive in Kazan six days before the Championship begins. All those six days will include our volunteers’ intense training. According to Vladimir Redko, who heads the New Step Volunteer Center at ASU, their training started in Astrakhan, where they have covered several special training programs.

The New Step Volunteer Center at ASU has become the only organization in Astrakhan that selected volunteers for the 16th FINA World Championships 2015. The selection campaign started on December 05, 2014, which is the International Volunteer Day. Since then, over 300 candidates have taken part in the three-stage selection process, and only 25 people of them have been chosen. Most of them are students of Astrakhan State University. That is because students of our University are provided with good language training throughout their studies, whereas foreign language skills are one of the main selection criteria.
